Dragon flies hold their wings flat and away from the body. Damselflies are an ancient and ubiquitous group and are found on every continent except Antarctica.

  • AUGUST 30-Milkweed bugs both nymph and adult on Asclepius or butterfly plant. This is the same plant that Monarch butterflies feed on . The bugs like the plant seeds,leaves, and stems. Occasionally the Milkweed bugs are scavengers and prey upon monarch eggs larvae, or pups. Overall the bugs are beneficial in the natural cycle of the Milkweed plant.

  • SEPTEMBER 5-Damselfly. Shadow Mountain Lake August 2020. Most damselflies are smaller and slenderer than dragonflies. The eyes of a damselfly are clearly separated while eyes of the dragonfly touch at the top of the head. The wings of a damselfly are all similar in shape while the hind wings of the dragonfly are broader at the base than its fore wings. At rest a damselfly holds its wings closed over the abdomen as in this picture. At rest a dragonfly holds its wings open, horizontally or downwards.
